August’s Pub of the Month is the Grapes on London Road in Hazel Grove. Dave Pennington has been along.
The Grapes is a traditional, community pub and one of the most distinctive and oldest pubs in the heart of Hazel Grove, with its prime location on the A6. It has a warm, welcoming feel and atmosphere, and it attracts customers who enjoy either a quiet relaxing drink or those involved in local sports teams.
A wet-led Robinsons pub, the Grapes’ cask ale offerings are the two Robinsons mainstays Unicorn and Dizzy Blonde.
Recently, the Grapes was awarded a 2025 ‘Best In Glass’ Beer Quality award Robinsons, which is testimony to the quality of its cask beer. The Grapes is one of only twelve pubs in the Robinsons estate to be given this prestigious award, which is given to pubs achieving scores based on an unannounced cellar audit.

The pub had its interior redesigned and refurbished in 2020 – just before lockdown! The layout comprises a lounge area which is split into two distinct drinking areas – the bar situated to the left, and a snug with a welcoming fireplace to the right. The rear room is a dedicated and quite secluded, pool room. Furnishings vary from fixed seating, to high chairs and stools. To the rear is a large fenced-off patio with plenty of seating and well-tended floral baskets, and a car park.
The Grapes hosts karaoke and disco nights every Friday and Saturday.

Hazel Grove station is a five-minute walk away.
