Mild Magic Inaugural Outing

Or should this be a Mild Magic Meander?
Six pubs, six areas - half a card completed in one evening

On your marks — Get set — GO!

The race to gather sufficient area stickers in order to complete your Mild Magic card(s) is started, so we have arranged this saunter down the A6, taking in six area, in order to get you off to a flying start.

We start at the Piccadilly Tap, where they invariably have a mild/dark beer on at all times, so this is a guaranteed starter. Should you be inclined to start a little earlier you could take part in the 3 TAP CHALLENGE. Visit all three Taps (Oxford Road, Victoria and Piccadilly) within the day and get a free pint.

Next up is the Station Hop, which is now an informal Blackjack Brewery tap, often having two or three of their beers on offer. As this is also the base for the Levenshulme Homebrew Club, who won the Mild Home Brew category for the 2024 Stockport Beer & Cider Festival it would be embarrassing not ot have one on!
Should you be hungry, there are a myriad of kebab. Samosa, pizza, et cetera outlets adjacent.

The Heaton Hops isn’t the largest of establishment, so we may have to form an orderly que outside and then have to retire to their patio to brink our mild (Hope it’s a nice evening!) Small though it is, the welcome is large, as is the variety of beers dispensed, and we should be delighted by a less than run-of-the-mill mild.

Unfortunately we will be passing the sad former site of the Hope in Heaton Norris (unless you fancy dropping in for a fish supper as it is now an outlet of Mother Hubbards).

Never mind, the Magnet beckons just down the road. Multi-award winning with a dozen (or so) handpulls, one of which is invariably a mild/dark beer. Once entered it might be a challenge to get people out and on the way to our next venue.

The White Lion re-opened in June 2024, and have steadily increased their offering from Doom Bar and Taylors Landlord to now having three (or sometimes four) real ales on offer. Being the new kids on the block they were eager to partake in Mild Magic and are promising a have a variety of interesting milds on offer – we wait with bated breath. Now why would you bait your breath – what are you expecting to catch”

Finally we climb up the hill (it might look a bit daunting after all this mild!) to seek out the Petersgate Tap. In previous years the Tap has done us proud, with a cornucopia of interesting (and sometimes devastatingly strong!) milds. An excellent end to the evening, but if we stick to our timings there is still an hour to scurry off to other Stockport pubs and get that ‘one for the road’ in before they shut.

All times are guidelines (except for the train, but it is a Northern service so maybe that could be considered a work of fiction!)
